We know you strive to have a beautiful lawn but you might be missing the most important part of lawn care. You must mow your lawn regularly to keep it in good shape. Keeping your grass looking healthier requires regular mowing. But, when it comes to cutting grass, how frequently should you do it? And why is it important? Let's have a look at it.

When Should You Mow?

You must mow your lawn regularly since it makes grass healthier and greener. So, the optimum time to mow the grass is during the growing season, and depending on the grass and its development. Typically, we recommended cutting your lawn one or twice a week. Waiting long periods of time between cuts can stress your lawn.

There are two types of grass: cool-season and warm-season grass. Cool-season grasses grow throughout the spring and fall, so you'll have to mow them more frequently when there is higher rainfall. Since these grasses grow slower in the summer, they don't require as much mowing. Warm grass thrives in hot summers. They grow fast if there is frequent rainfall, so that they will require regular mowing.

Grass Length

For newer lawns, wait for it to reach a particular length so the root system can develop. Your lawn will be healthier if it has a more extensive root system. Your grass will become more drought and stress-tolerant, reducing the amount of water you need to apply. It is recommended that you keep the grass length up to 2.5-3′′. This length prevents weeds from growing because sunlight does not reach them.

Benefits Of Regular Mowing

  • Cutting grass regularly results in better roots, leading to a robust, healthy, and beautiful grassy garden.

  • When you mow your grass regularly with a sharp, well maintained blades, every section of the lawn receives the same quantity of nutrients and light. As a result, even growth is achieved.

  • Mowing the lawn regularly recovers quickly from pests, diseases, and bad weather. It prevents infestations from occurring in the first place.

Lawn Mowing Tips

  • Mid-morning is the best time to mow your lawn. This is because morning dew will be dried off by the sun. (Never cut a wet lawn)

  • Leave the grass clippings after mowing the lawn because they work as a natural fertilizer so long as it is not to heavy preventing sunlight to reach the lawn.

  • Always use sharp, clean blades on your mower, and wear eye and ear protection, closed-toed shoes, and sunscreen

As you've seen, maintaining a regular mowing schedule and cutting grass is critical if you want a lawn that is not only beautiful but also healthy. So, keep mowing the lawn at correct intervals.
